Friend got a Minor in Possession (MIP) in Idaho in 2007, now lives in Oregon – an employment background search by an employer turned up the MIP – told him they need information on the event, or he’s fired.
1) he’s married with a kid onthe way – can’t afford to be losing a job.
2) how would he obtain that record?
3) how much would it cost? (Free is better).
4) is this employment discrimination since this could have been done before he got hired, and now they want to terminate him for it?
Thanks!
he doesn’t know about Yahoo Answers so I’m asking for him, I swear it’s not me!

Go to your city police or county sheriff’s department and let the desk sergeant know that you’re looking for the Fingerprint Division and what you need to do.
They will be able to take your prints and run you thru NCIC (National Crime Information Center -run by the FBI) and they will print out any info for your employer.
The fee runs anywhere from $20.00 – $35.00.
And yes an employer can do a background check or demand you take a radom drug test. The Urinalysis Test is slowly becoming a thing of the past. Now the lab will pluck a couple of hairs with the root attached and they’ll be able to see what drugs you’ve been doing for the last ten years.

Don’t know whether it is legal in that state, but it seems employers have all of the rights anymore. I am not sure I agree with it as I think one should know the conditions about their employment before being hired. With jobs being few and far between, I would certainly provide whatever information is needed.

Yes. And I have seen people fired over the results.
