I need to get one done for a college class that I’m taking this fall that involves observing children. I am told I need to get one and I have never gotten one before. What is involved in a background check?

I did an unpaid internship for my dad’s business about 3 years ago. I am being background checked right now and they asked for the W2/paycheck stub for this internship. I am inclined to tell them it was for my dad’s business and unpaid, but just the fact that unpaid internships are "technically" illegal here makes me a little worried. Are background check agencies usually lenient on this sort of things?

I am applying for jobs, and have a interview scheduled for tomorrow, am over 18. and was wondering if I get hired if i will have to wait for them to perform a background check?

I remember when i worked at a theater the managers were looking for people under 18 to hire so they didn’t have to do a background check and could hire them quicker.
I didn’t say anyone told me they required it, I was asking people on here because it wasn’t something covered in civics class.

No you are in correct. I own a 30-30, and my shotguns were all purchased in my name, however i don’t own a pistol and that’s why I ask. Laws for pistols are different, (at least here in Texas)

It is associated with my name and correct date of birth. I have a very rare name so the chances of it being another person with my name is very low. I was arrested for theft. My lawyer got my offense knocked down to a Misdemeanor C for Disorderly Conduct.

My question is — If I’m going for a job, I of course have to put down I have a misdemeanor c for disorderly conduct, but do I need to state it was for theft or does the disorderly conduct take care of that?

I had an interview today and I think it went well. im trying to find an old friend but i need a little assistance. everytime i try to look something up it keeps talking about a background check. and i just need either an email or phone number. and also how old is the minimum age to look up. my friend is 18 and im not sure if im able to find her or not.

Back in 1993/94 my husband had a tax lean put on him by unemployment. He owned money back. He paid it off and ended up getting a notarized letter from a court stating it was payed. I have a job interview at ross and i hear they do a background check. I have several misdemeanors/infractions on my record (i live in CA if that matters)…nothing major, no theft at least. does it list the specific reason like say i had to go out of town and didn’t know i had work, or say i had to go for a family emergency. would it say that on the background check or would it just say that it was a no show?

The civil suit was pertaining to a credit card issue. I called and spoke to the credit card folks, got the issue resolved immediately, and the suit was dropped. Does that mean it was "dismissed?" There was never a judgment rendered and I never had to go to court. I want to know if it will show up on a background check, or if it will negatively affect my likelihood of being hired as a teacher.

I was offered a job subject to a background check for a financial service/bank. Unfortunately I was deemed unbondable. In 2002 I went on pretrial diversion for a misdameanor. When filling out the application I answered that I was never charged with a crime and that was why I cannot get the job. I have plead guilty to a summary offense retail theft (legally has about the weight of a traffic citation) four and a half years ago. It was a rough time for me as I was going through a divorce and my world was falling apart.

I never did anything like this before or anything like that after. I was a always a straight A student and have never tried drugs or gotten into any other trouble. Never even had a speeding ticket before.

Anyway, I kids go to a charter school. I am very involved in their lives, and I want to volunteer. According to Pennsylvania law, a background check must be done on anyway who is in the school including volunteers. I am really embarrassed about this and worry how this would affect the relationship that I have with the teachers and school. I also worry about my ex-wife somehow finding out.

Do these background checks just look for things like felonies, aggrevated assaults or child sex type offenses or are they on anything including my offense.

ki6criew: Thanks for the sentiment. I stayed home with my kids for 3 years when my divorce forced me to go back to work. Being a stay at home mom was the hardest job I ever had. I love my kids, and I love my career, albeit in a much different way. I have given very serious thought to staying home with them again, but I would be giving up a lot of things, namely health insurance, that we just can’t live without. So keep in mind that everyone’s situation is unique and it doesn’t mean that us working moms are in any way selfish, or love our kids any less. I commend the women who stay home and raise their children exclusively, however I bet they are married to someone whose income can support the whole family.

I’m having a background check on me for renting a home. I just went through paperwork for a new job today and the background application papers will be sent in tomorrow. Will it show up? How long will it take if it doesn’t show up right away?

I’ve been late on two student loan payments that I’m in the process of trying to defer. Not only that I closed a credit card unknowingly that that is considered a "bad thing" on your credit report. Should I be up front and honest about this before they do the background check? I mean the reason why I’m trying to find better employment is so that I can make more money thus being more able to afford to pay my bills without breaking even each month! Suggestions please

I know it sounds terrible, but I’ve heard things (from a reliable source) that this friend’s mom has been involved in drugs and spent time in jail, etc. I know people can change and I’ve spoken to the mother a few times at school and she seems very nice, but honestly, I’m a horrible judge of character. When I say the mom seems very nice, I mean it. She’s not only friendly but she’s very well put together and always looks nice and clean. I’m not judging her on her past, but the info I recieved was that mom was in prison RECENTLY (as within the last couple of months). About 5 years ago I got into a little trouble due to someone giving me a fake check, the conviction was expunged long story short. I work for a large hospital in Wisconsin and they recently decided they were going to send out a criminal background check survey to ALL hospital staff. They are claiming they are choosing to apply the four or five year background check required by the Caregiver law to ALL hospital staff. I work in IT and NEVER have patient contact. For Example: Arrested in June of 2003 but sentenced on January 2004.

I need to do background check on someone or get to public records. I have searched the internet all day and most websites charge -30. I really need to find something for free. HELP!

Wondering if it’s considered retaliatory for landlord to require husband to do background check after a complaint has been filed with the city and lease has already been signed by wife. We have nothing to hide, but want to make sure we’re protected from getting evicted and if allowing landlord to do a background now can void the current lease.

I use the word retaliatory because landlord was aware husband lived in unit and did not bring this requirement up until after the complaint.

I applied, passed three interviews and the final hiring manager acted like I had the job, he even sent me home with some store pamphlets to read up on so I would know about the credit cards they offer to customers. A friend of mine was being stupid one night and managed to get a disorderly conduct, does this mean that this person will therefore fail a criminal background check, making this person ineligible for jobs?

Are they checking to see if you are some sort of pedophile or sicko or are they looking into your driving record, i.e. dui’s, reckless driving, etc. and how far back are they going to check? I am going through a background check for an airline.
I was arrested a few years ago when I was a minor. The crime I was charged with was a felony, but I was never convicted. It was instead reduced to a misdomeanor disorderly conduct. A few months after that, the entire record was expunged. I was told that it was off my record forever and I didn’t need to answer yes on applications where it asks if you’ve ever been convicted of a felony.
