I have just gained employment within Barclays Bank and they are now running through their background checks. I have 3 defaults on my credit file which I have been paying on time since they went on. Would this be a problem in passing my credit check for them? I have worked for them as a temp on a 6 months contract and since then my credit rating can only have gone better but this being a permanent position may be different?

i have a couple questions
how many or better yet what % of jobs and employers do criminal and driving background checks, or how often?
Does having a "No Contest" for a felony (no contest meaning you plead neither guilty or non guilty and were never adjudicated guilty) plea affect your employment opportunities for jobs besides government jobs? (example : Home depot or an Insurance agency)
Does having a suspended driving license also affect your opportunities even for jobs that do not require you to drive?

We have two people we plan on hiring. One if from Europe and the other person is from Africa. Both candidates have held positions in different countries, and lived in several countries. These are high level positions and they would both have access to senstive info, etc. Anyone recommend a good company to do complete background checks, or international pre-employment screenings?

I was wondering how strict their investigation background is. I’ve never been arrested or anything like that, but I do have some other things in my background. Are they more lenient than police department background checks? and if Im totally honest with them with whatever they dig up will my chances of getting hired increase even if my background aint all that great?

Hi,
After some gruesome interviews and real hard work, I ended up getting an offer from a big company which outsources their background checks to a third party vendor. However, there are two minor discrepancies in the dates that I gave for my background check verification. Both are off by a month. My graduation month I specified as May instead of April since my exams wound up in May but my graduation certificate shows April. Also, I was continuously employed for the last 5 years. So my first job wound up in the end of Oct and the second one started in Nov. But I accidentally specified that my first one ended in Nov and the second one started in Dec. I guess, my second employer during the background check confirmation, mentioned the correct date (Nov) as my joining date.
Do these discrepancies qualify as ‘lies’ and does that mean I would not end up working at the big company. Or are these treated as small issues and could be corrected by the company later?
Thanks,
In both instances, I was not trying to provide incorrect information and both were genuinely honest mistakes.

1) How precise are companies when it comes to background checks? For example, if I was off a month when I did my employment dates for a certain position, would this be considered a ‘red flag’ to denial? (I simply ask because I am not 100% certain on the timeframe, and simply entered what I had typically used in my Resume. However I am unsure whether it was that month, or the next that my employment began.)
2) Are grades a reason for people to be denied employment? I included a semester of college in my background check wherein my grades were admittedly abysmal. Could this potential destroy my chance of being hired? (I didn’t receive any kind of degree, nor did I say I did on my background check information sheet.)
3) Your Opinion::: My background information should be almost exactly accurate, my employment dates (except for the note above) should be right on, along with my competency in the areas that I explained in my Resume. My High School grades were above-average, whilst college was far below average for the semester I was in there. No criminal history either; if a company has gone this far to check my background, what are my chances of employment? ((Unless grades are a HUGE factor when employment is decided.))
Thanks everyone.

I responded to an ad on craigslist for a job and got an email saying I got the job, but they needed to perform a credit and background check. I know this is not unusual as many jobs require credit checks and nearly all require background checks. My concern is that she told me to get the check myself and send her the verification number. I want to know if everything is on the up and up. My question is, should you have to pay to get a credit check for an employer or do they usually pull it up on their own? Here’s part of the email so you can make a better decision:
"We’ve taken some time to look through the applications. And we’ve decided to make you a part of our staff. We’d love for you to come in for an interview. We are still REQUIRED to run credit and background checks on all our employees. This is because we have a lot of private and sensitive information lying around in our office, and the nature of the work itself. Visit this link to get the credit report; it’s free of course. Simply email us the verification number–we don’t require you to send us your private info via email. But we WILL need your verification number to set up your interview. The BG check will be done in person. E-mail me if you have any questions. Look forward to seeing you soon!"

Skip Tracing (?) resources.?
I am looking for resources that will assist me in performing extensive background checks on people. There are many services available that do the background research for you and I am feeling that they are a bit generic with the information and I would like to do some of the digging myself but don’t know where to start, or actually I may start by applying for service with an established provider of this service, but would like to dig deeper. Does anyone have any experience in this area that could turn me in the right direction?

I have an offer from a company in Scotland. I’ve been living here (UK) for the past 2 yrs. They did some credit checks in UK and its clear. They are now doing credit/background checks in India. Can they have access to my credit history in India? or will it just be background/past employment check?
I have a mortgage running in India since 2007 (I never missed a payment)…also I took auto loans for 2 cars. Both loans paid off in 2010 (Never missed a payment on both of these)..however I have had a small amount (0) outstanding on a credit card. It is originally 20$, about some insurance the bank guys put on my card without my consent. I refused to pay for it since I never authorised it and I dont need it. but the bank refused to budge…so they kept adding charges…. Will this cost me my job here in Scotland?

Any type of Background checks such as employment, school, etc…
True, if someone does think that its an invasion of privacy they might have something to hide but that’s not always the case. and will an employer still be violating your privacy even if you don’t have anything to hide?

I want to become a police officer in a few years, but have a few questions about the background checks they conduct.
I’ve worked at a few jobs, some years ago, that I can’t remember specific dates to, would they come up in a employment background check? I don’t want to not mention them, but not knowing the correct dates could also look sketchy. If I were to pay for someone to run a background check on me, could I find out this sort of information?
And if so, can anyone recommend me an agency who could conduct a thorough background check?
It would be nice knowing this information before I even apply.

This doesn’t involve me. Actually a place where a friend of mine works.
Her place of employment (a restaurant) recently started doing background checks on employees. All fine and dandy, if you are a new hire.. but they are also performing background checks on people who are employed (and long term) and have terminated some people because of the check.
No, my friend wasn’t one who was fired..
It just seems funny to have a retroactive rule like that. I trust companies follow rules and laws regarding this.. but this just seems funny. Do you think this is legal?
State of KY if that helps any.
OK, more info through a text. One had a felony 15 years ago and has been employed for over 3 years. Another had a felony in 1998 and was terminated for it.
Yeah, criminals shouldn’t have done the crime in the first place, I get it.. But is it alright to go retroactive on things like this. Is there no ‘grandfather clause’ to protect people.
Again, yes a criminal… but that was 15 years ago.
Try again Zach:

Employers verify employment experiences by calling the candidate’s references.
Granted, if the candidate got their friends to pose as phony references, that could be a loophole around it.

I am now almost 21 now and was offered a job at a major credit card company. They had me submit a background check a week ago and today offered me a job and gave me a UA and fingerprints. Can they see that crime, and is it LEGAL for them to decide not to hire me after all because of it? The crime involved a marijuana brownie and was not fraud or money laundering or anything you would think they would look for for a finance company. Help me understand if I am having anxiety for no reason. (also I have passed background checks for 2 apartments and my current job)
I was convicted, I took a plea bargan to causing someone to injest a controlled substance (because i shared the brownie with my friends) stupid I know but I was 14 it was 2004/2005. I dont want this to affect who I am now

I do have the paperwork signed from the judge saying that my record is to be expunged. Should I present this to the company during the background process? Do you think that they will hold that against me still? My record says felon but the court order says expunged…..What shall I do ???? This is a national company who does background checks for employment.

I have been working at a car dealership for nearly two years, and they said that they were now required to run background checks on everyone. I filled out the form and they sent it in. I ask them how far it went back. They told me it was only to check over the last year. It picked up a shoplifting citation I plead guilty to 4 1/2 years ago. If I had known this was going back that far or that they hadn’t run one back that far, I would have explained what had happened before allowing them to send it.
I am very open about what I did and have never done anything like this before. I was in a terrible divorce when I committed this and plead guilty to a summary offense. The public defender told me this was no more than a citation and that it wouldn’t affect in the future as far as employment was concerned.

There is a bill in California going through the assembly that would require volunteers (including parents) to pass a background check. Some schools districts are claiming that the cost of running background checks and fingerprinting volunteers would be too much and also discourage parents from helping. Should parent volunteers be required to pass a background and/or fingerprint check prior to helping out?

I was 17years old and with my friends and we shopliftied . We were in another state from which we live. I went to court and had to pay a fine. I just had a interview with this company and I know they are going to do a back ground check. I live in a different state from were i shoplifted. I did a background check for my state and nothing came up but when I went to the state where I was arrested It came up as a misdeanor. The job I have applied for is located in another state but they are going to open a office where I live. I just want to know if they will be able to see the shoplifting on my record? Do you think they will check just my state or all over?
It happened in 2003
The company only has my resume and they have’t asked me to fillout a application yet but I went online and the application doesn’t mention anything about background checks. When i was arrested they didn’t send me to a juvinele jail so does that mean I was charged as an adult. IT happened in the state of Georgia

Posted in People Background check by admin: April 11, 2011
Previously I posted information on all these companies now that want to check your credit, and do background checks before they hire you. The question is this:
Aren’t you contributing to lawlessness by doing this? Suppose there is someone out there that has some unfavorable information on their record because LIFE HAPPENS TO US ALL, and you decide to not hire them because say they had a criminal record. Aren’t you adding to the criminal activity by not giving them jobs when they need jobs to rehabilitate themselves?
People are going to do what they have to do to survive. How are people supposed to rehabilitate their lives if no one will give them a chance? Also, for the Human Resources Supervisors, most of them don’t know how to make a decision, much less make a determination on whether or not someone is bad or good based on say a credit report or an arrest record. They just look at it and go oh this person filed bankruptcy, or this person has an arrest record, so they can’t have a job.
I think you are over looking some good hard workers that may want to reform their lives by making these kind of STUPID DECISIONS. Also, and I have seen this one, sometimes you hire people that have no blemishes on their records and they come into your companies and steal, miss time from work that costs the company money, lie and all sorts of other ails.
LIFE HAPPENS AND SOME DAY LIFE IS GOING TO HAPPEN TO YOU TOO. Someone said it is survival of the fittest and it is, but it is also PATHETIC THAT PEOPLE THINK LIKE THAT.
Michr, I don’t agree with this statement:
That potential new employee’s have TO PROVE ANYTHING TO THEIR EMPLOYER, or to anyone else for that matter. What you said tells me that you are sick psychologically, that you think you have to prove yourself.
We need Unions back. Employer’s are getting TOO OUT OF CONTROL WITH ALL THE BS

I filled out an application for a job today and had an interview. I signed a release to do a background/credit check. They asked for my date of birth on that release form. I left it blank. I havent been offered the job, I was only there for my first interview. I know that a backround/credit check can be done without a birthdate, and dont they wait until thett are least seriously considering hiring you, or have actally offered the position before a background check is done? Is asking for the birthdate on the other form just a sneaky way of finding out how old you are prior to offering you a job???
I realize they need the age info if you are hired, but I only filled out an application, and had a 10 minute interview.Isint it against the law to ask someones age before a job offer??Do the do background checks on everyone who fills out an application?

(This is assuming you’re not a criminal or drug user) This happened to me last Friday and I haven’t heard back yet. I know background checks take a little while but I’m pretty anxious to hear from them. It seems dumb to pay to test everyone they interview but maybe they do?
I will also add that this is for Cox Communications – so if anyone works for Cox it would be great to hear what you think. Thanks everybody.

I have put on there that I graduated High School in 2001. Will it really show if I did or not graduate and receive my diploma? Would they have to do extra work to find that out or does it just show up? Do most Background checks really show that information on High School records from 7 years ago? Thank You Please Help!

I am a recent college graduate and just got offered an awesome job and was wondering if previous employment is included on background checks. I held SEVERAL summer jobs some which I actually forgot about. Well I filled out this form and sent it out then remembered some other places that I worked. I am unable to go back to correct this information and am simply wondering if past employment is included or do they simply check the references i provided on my resume.
I am simply curious. I have worked many jobs in the past that did background checks but didn’t seem to acknowledge that I left out these summer jobs. I am just a little anxious considering I just landed my dream job and didn’t bother to mention my past summer employment.
FYI. I have seen similiar questions and they vary, covering two different extremes. Either it doesn’t matter what you put on an application as long as you worked there and it is relevant to the job for which you applied or not putting all work history will be looked upon as dishonesty.

I have plead guilty to a summary offense retail theft (legally has about the weight of a traffic citation) four and a half years ago. It was a rough time for me as I was going through a divorce and my world was falling apart.
I never did anything like this before or anything like that after. I was a always a straight A student and have never tried drugs or gotten into any other trouble. Never even had a speeding ticket before.
Anyway, I kids go to a charter school. I am very involved in their lives, and I want to volunteer. According to Pennsylvania law, a background check must be done on anyway who is in the school including volunteers. I am really embarrassed about this and worry how this would affect the relationship that I have with the teachers and school. I also worry about my ex-wife somehow finding out.
Do these background checks just look for things like felonies, aggrevated assaults or child sex type offenses or are they on anything including my offense.
There are three levels of offenses in PA
1 Felony
2 Misdemeanor
3 Summary offense
Mine was the 3rd – I had to pay a fine and was on 2 months probation. I admittedly store 2 DVDs from a Kmart.

I have a dilemma – I’m an experienced IT Project Manager with extensive Fortune 500 experience – a high achiever with excellent education and professional credentials – but I have a career problem. In the midst of a high-conflict divorce my ex alleged that I grabbed her arm – and I wound up eventually pleading no contest to the charge of simple battery (PC 242). I was innocent – and the victim of her drunken rage – but nothing I could say or do seemed to matter. The more I protested my innocence, the more legal pressure I was subjected to. In the end, I was blackmailed by the legal system into pleading guilty to something – anything so they would lift restraining orders that forced me to move out and have no contact with her or my kids. The moment I plead "no contest", they lifted the restraining orders and sent me on my merry way – but with a criminal conviction that now prevents me from getting hired. The unfairness, inequity, and humiliation I was subjected to was beyond reason – and now to add even further injury, I am seemingly unemployable – by any firm that conducts background checks. The divorce and legal costs have left me with no significant assets, and I can’t last 2 years without a source of income. I’m looking for advice – a solution to my dilemma. Perhaps a firm that would be willing to hire me despite this issue – and I can and will substantiate my outstanding character, honesty, and integrity. Maybe a strategy to remove this from my criminal record and/or background reports. Maybe a law enforcement organization that would be willing to “clear” this in exchange for assistance in an investigation, sting operation, or other law enforcement activity. I’m open to suggestions – and I welcome and appreciate any helpful guidance or advice. I’m not a batterer trying to squirm out my predicament – I am an honest, kind, helpful person that was victimized by a person with very serious emotional issues (bpd, depression, and alcoholism) and a legal system that assumes all allegations are just, true, and above challenge. Thank you for reading this, and I encourage you to educate yourself on the dysfunctional state of California’s domestic violence laws. I’m opposed to violence (domestic or otherwise) in every way – but the current legal system is being abused and manipulated in a well-intentioned but misguided effort to prevent further suffering my women. It is a noble and righteous goal – but the results have not been realized and many men have suffered the same fate.

I applied for a job yesterday that required a background check. I was wondering if jobs I had before I turned 18 will come up? I don’t have anything to hide, but I didn’t list one of the jobs I had in high school because the experience I gained there didn’t pertain to the job I was applying for and there were only 4 spaces to list previous work experience so I chose to write down the places that were more like the job I was applying for. I just don’t want the potential new employer to think that I’m hiding something because I didn’t list it… if I had that job when I was 17 (started the job and quit the job when I was 17) will it come up on a background check? I’m 20 years old now, so it’s within 7 years…
Thanks for any help.
Background checks also show previous employment history. Depending on what type of background check is being conducted. I got the impression from the paperwork I filled out that it’d be check both criminal history and my employment history.

I was wondering two things. First, what is the purpose of a credit check for employment at places like WalMart? I understand background checks, but a credit check? Also, if I do not have good credit, does that mean I cannot be hired for places like this? I just really don’t get the point of it if everything else is fine why a credit check matters. Please explain.

I contracted for a modeling agency for two years and filed 1099 tax forms for this contracted employment. I would prefer to not list this employment on my resume because it does 80% of its business as legit modeling work and 20% adult modeling work. Can background checks find out who you were employed by if you don’t list the previous employers on your resume. For instance, could the background check make the link between filing the 1099 forms and the employment with the modeling agency?

I’m a property manager and sometimes need to ‘skip trace’ and do background checks, what is the BEST paid or subscription website to perform reverse lookups for cell, telephone, address, license plate numbers; background checks; and people searches?
There are several out there: Intelius, Government-lookup, people search, etc. I don’t want to subscribe to them all and can’t find a reliable consumer rating site. Can someone who’s used these sites give me pros and cons, name the site, and quote the expense?

I was not arrested, or fingerprinted. They just gave me a ticket. This is in NYC, where it is a violation of an "Administrative Code 10-125 B, a violation not a crime as charged on this summons." The pink summons says to plead guilty and pay a dollar fine.
I have no previous arrests, summonses, or anything of the sort. Will this appear on background checks for employment? Will this be on my record? Thanks for your answers!

I’m currently chasing after a promotion opportunity, and they require a background check once you’re being considered for the position. I’m 21 years old, and haven’t established credit since I’m only using my money for food, gas, and rent. I know the background checks are used to see if you have bad or good credit, especially in positions where you handle a hefty amount of cash during work hours. I have no credit. Will that mess me up? Is no credit better than bad credit?

What kind of program or service do they use to search for an applicant’s former employer information? Do they only call the employers listed on your application? There are a couple short-term employers that I’ve had in the past that I don’t ever list because I didn’t leave on good terms (I quit without notice). I used to work in HR and we only called employers on the application, we didn’t do indepth searches. I’m just wondering how corporate employers do their background checks for employment history.

Are they checking to see if you are some sort of pedophile or sicko or are they looking into your driving record, i.e. dui’s, reckless driving, etc. and how far back are they going to check? Is this really necessary and legal? Some places want to do background checks, credit checks, drug testing, etc. for jobs that only pay about hour. Anyone know?
I might add I am not talking about going out for an interview for a normal job, but rather a home based customer service position where you take phone calls for companies. And the items I am referring to happened almost 20 years ago. Do you think this would have any relevance?

I am pursuing a career in gaming in Nevada. I have heard that Casinos run extensive background checks for employment. 8 years ago I was convicted of misdemeanor assault but I had the charges expunged in court. I was told that I could say I was never convicted, but if the BG checks are extensive will they find it? Should I keep shut or admit my fault and hope I’m pardoned? LOL Help from lawyers or Casino employees or hiring managers would be appreciated. I don’t want to spend all the time and effort on schooling etc just to not get hired by anyone. Thanks

have over 20 years of management experience in banking and collections. I have recently applied for a job with an attorney’s office and need to be bonded. My background check will all be good except my credit score. I have gone through a divorce and have medical bills. I have 3 large charge offs from the divorce from 2002. They are still active because they keep selling the debt. Recently my husband and I have fallen behind on car notes that is why I’m seeking employment. I really want this job and don’t want my past credit to hurt me. I have past 2 other background checks in the last 4 yrs. My concern is being bonded. Do employers look at the entire picture or can just one thing affect the job. They have already offered me the position so now it’s up to the background check. Nothing on my credit report shows my strong work ethic or morals. I’m really worried.

They told me it WOULDNT be picked up by employers who perform background checks, but i just applied for a job and something came up. they havent told me yet but it has me worried. It happened when i was 17 and im now 21, turning 22 in less than a month. I wasn’t "convicted" of the felony but they used some other term, that i don’t remember. So if anyone could tell me the term and if it can be picked up in background checks id appreciate it.

One or two of them were drunk, and one guy had a knife out. There was an open beer bottle on the garbage can a few feet away. The cop walked up, ran background checks and then searched everyone. I am 17 and they found weed on me, wondering if I can get out of the charges because of an illegal search. Im in washington state.

I recently just got hired 3 weeks ago by a temporary employer, but the job I wanted at Verizon had called me and we had a phone interview. They do employment verification background checks, and I tried to give them all the jobs I had in the last seven years. I didn’t give them the new job I just got 3 weeks ago. I filled out a W2 form for the new one, but when Verizon sees the employment check, will they see the new job that I just started? I probably should have just listed it too.

I went on an interview recently and I signed the disclosures to do background check however no where on those forms did it say to include my DOB. They have my name and S.S#. Isn’t that more than enough? I got a call today from my potential new employer that they need my DOB to do my background check however I did not get the call from the actual third party company they hire to do the background checks requesting this information.
So to summarize should I give it to them or are they just trying to find out how old I am to base it on whether they will give me the job.
Thank You for your responses MOST were very helpful. I just had that little doubt b/c it’s true they are not allowed to ask for dob during interviews but I wasn’t too sure if they could after the interview.

Hi, we live in a small, rural area where unfortunately unwanted dogs and cats are a problem. We have began fostering rescue cats & dogs for our local rescue group. Our process/groups process for adoption is: 1st step is potential adoptee fills out adoption app. Not being prejudiced but we dont adopt to renters, had too many renters adopt, move to new place that doesnt allow pets, then dump them.2nd based on info, check all local tri couny animal shelter/rescues to make sure person not on "dont adopt"list/neglect chrgs. 3rd we do a home visit to check condition of where animal will live 4rth Trial adoption stating that no less than 2,no more than 4 random, surprise home visits will be conducted within 90 days to check on welfare of animal/adopter happy. Then if all this goes well, adoption! Know it sounds like a lot,but all our animals are fostered and have to have welfare ensured. Does anyone know a cheap, accurate source of background checks aside from people search type businesses?
To clarify, the thing about not adopting to renters is simply bc we live in a SMALL town that basically the only places to rent are 3 apt complexes and a couple houses. All 3 apt complexes WILL allow pets , but you have to put a 0 deposit down; and then if your neighbors complain, you have to get rid of the animal. We have ran into a LOT of instances where unfortunately, neighbors dont get along over something NOT to do with the pet,but the neighbor complains about pet for spite. Then the pet comes back to us and it was all just a waste of time. I do NOT agree with that policy, but cannot help it. And we live in such a small town (pop 1200) that there are like 4 older couples that rent out trailers and DO NOT allow pets. BUT some long term renters have made special arrangements and got a written letter from their landlord and we do it then. Just the are where we live, most people own a home or rent to buy. Also, the policy about no renters is the rescues policy, not mine.

I have poor credit because I’m in the middle of an identity theft nightmare (e.g. someone used my name to take out bank accounts and float checks as well as got a cellphone and pay day loans). I’m applying for a great job and the company does background checks. I got an interview and things look really promising. Do I tell them what they’re going to find if they pull my credit? I don’t want to make myself look bad, but I also don’t want to volunteer information that they couldn’t get.

It might be best if you have restraining order and have been given a background check when answering this question too.
I already did my internet research and most of you are totally wrong.
background checks will only find it in SOME states unless there is a criminal record attached to it. (example; domestic abuse, spousal abuse)
And even if found, it is not a disqualifying record for a job because it is not a crime and anyone can order a restraining order against anybody else.

I ask because I know that if a potential employer calls a former employer you were fired from, it is unlawful for that employer to give out that kind of information. Apparently, they’re not even allowed to give out the salary you made.
But, what I don’t know is if the company you were fired from releases the information–the fact that you were fired–to background check companies … or puts it in some sort of database that any background check company can access.
I’m really gearing for this one job and I don’t want to have that one job that I worked for more than 3 years ago to make me ineligible for this job. Any feedback is appreciated. Thanks.
I’m not asking if they call my past employer. I’m asking if it will show up on a background employment check. Ya know, those companies that do nothing but background checks on individuals for other companies for hiring purposes…
I’m also not asking if they check. I KNOW they check cuz an AT&T employee emailed me telling me which kinds of background checks they do: (county, federal, etc), a driving check, and an employment check. Those were his exact words.
I emailed him explaining that I was working with a credit agency which would show why I am delinquent on some of my credit cards. And he wrote back thanking me, telling me he didn’t think they did a credit check, but that they did the above ones.

Hi!
In this day and age would they, and, do employment agencies use your credit report for background checks? What do they look for, if they do? What items would be considered negative strikes against you in consideration for employment? I am starting to go out to look for work. My credit report is so horrible since being laid off a year ago.
Thank you for your information in this matter!

I supplied references and there will be a credit report check, that’s OK. Does every single little job assignment show??? I had a couple of part time jobs last year that I did not list in my employment history because they were short part time assignments. I tried to open a business but that did not work well so I closed it after 8 months – will that show anywhere??
Anna – I don’t understand your comment. Yes, I gave references.. what is a better option in your opinion?

They claim, "we’re not for putting guns in the hands of criminals."
Then why don’t you vote against background checks?
*****please don’t respond by saying "Criminals will have guns anyway, even if they are illegal." That may be true, but that’s no reason to make it easier and convenient for criminals to buy guns legally.

Yeah, and if she’s embarassed about a child ****ing uncle, and she says she doesn’t have one and then I leave children with him. Then what? I can tell my children "Oh sorry.. I didn’t want to hurt mom’s feelings by doing a background search to find out if Uncle Larry was a creep."

2. They didn’t tell me the pay! Said they couldn’t yet!
3. They want to check my personal bank acct info and credit background!
Which is a total mess now. Seeing I don’t work and haven’t since May and nothing is getting paid with no $$$ coming in…
4. This is a cell phone company that wants me to do this. Not a big chain one either. what would they need to know all this personal stuff about me for? This isn’t some goverment job! The really strange thing is they don’t even do credit checks for those that buy cell phones. they don’t even do contracts for there customers its cash or nothing.
So why all the personal info from me?
5. They need to verify that I am not lying about where I went to HIGH SCHOOL! Now you are talking over 15 years ago. Why do they care!
6. How much I got paid from previous employer. Why is this there Business?
7. They want a copy of my last pay stub.. LOL.. Couldn’t tell ya how to get one of those… I will NOT contact my previous employer that I worked for.
What should I do?
Do I give them my s.s. # not knowing what the pay is and if the job is even possibly mine…
I can’t find any info about background checks and if it is safe to give them this info…

I see there are background checking companies on the internet. How do the hospitals check/what companies do they use? I feel I have gotten turned down for positions I should not have and I need to know if there is something in my background checks or otherwise that I should know. I know I am a good person. I am a thoughtful/hardworking health care provider and I feel I should be employed full time. I appreciate your response.

Okay so I got a job as a Courtesy Associate in Southern California last wednesday pending a drug screen and background check. Well I got the drug screen done the same day, and I have heard background checks take a few days, sometimes slightly longer. I am starting to worry because I haven’t heard yet. I just called the store and they said they are still waiting for the results. Anybody have advice or tips?

I have just been terminated from my previous job because of politics in the workplace. I do not intend to put this job in my resume because I do not want my prospective employer to contact my previous one due to the fact that I’m sure they would say something negative about me and it might keep me from getting the job I’m applying for. Now I don’t know what to do, should I put this two-month job in my resume? Or if I decide to totally leave it out like I never had this job at all, will my prospective employer know through the background checks they do?

I have been offered a wonderful well-paying position, pending the background check. I have no skeletons in my closet, outside of some financial credit issues. The job I am getting does not involve finances of any kind. Does anyone know anything about background checks and could this prevent me from getting the job?

I Quote from a Yahoo news story:
Eleven Pakistani nationals, ten of whom hold student visas, and one UK-born Briton are being questioned at various locations in the UK.
Prime Minister Gordon Brown spoke to Pakistan’s president, Asif Ali Zardari, on Thursday night amid concern about the number of suspects who had come to the UK from Pakistan on student visas.
Pakistan’s High Commissioner, Wajid Shamsul Hasan, dismissed claims that his country was not doing enough to tackle the extremists, insisting it was the UK that needed to do more.
He said the Pakistani authorities could help carry out background checks on student visa applicants but were not allowed to.
…..foreign national students were checked against watchlists of criminals and suspects from other countries.
So if Pakistan is not allowed to do background checks on the students, how exactly can it be said that the list is comprehensive? If we only check against the list, we WILL be missing lots of potential criminals on their way in to the UK.
In the light of this inability to adequately screen people entering the UK, and the Pakistani President’s insistance that it is up to the UK to prevent them from entering, ie the fault of the UK immigration system for letting them in, then is it not time to shut the door? If the Pakistani Government wont help by tightening regulations so as to not export terrorists, the responsibility falls solely on the UK, surely we HAVE to do something now?

Hi all, Now i by no means wish this to turn into a huge arguement but would like to see some honest intelligent answers.
First off let me say I am pro gun owership with proper rules, handling training, background checks etc. I believe that shooting is an excellent sport.
It is 20 years on from the tragedy that was the Hungerford massacre where a man walked down the street with an assault rifle shooting anyone he seen. My question is do you think if shooting was more accepted and encouraged he could have been stopped sooner? Or do you think it would have resulted in mass panic shooting. Also do you think if it was completly outlawed then as it pretty much is now the massacre would still have happened but only with something else such as a car or knives?
Do you think that gun owner ship should be allowed today in a country where only criminals have guns and good citizens do not.
Cheers,
Sorry i know gun owership is allowed in certain cases shotguns & rifles I should have made clear i was referring to hand guns and semi automatic rifles etc. I also should point out that i do not own a gun myself as you are made to feel a criminal if you wish to buy one.
If you look at statistics how many are comminted by legally owned guns? Same in Britain most gun crime is and always has been illegal guns not registered etc.
Crispy- Ban all guns 40 years hard labour thats stupid. Maybe for people who have guns illegally which banning hasn’t stopped anyway. Why not ban cars they kill more people than guns in the UK or knives(again i am stopped from carrying a knife a useful tool for my work because of the criminal element of society)
Fiona M- Typical libral do gooder attitude my dear. It is becoming more like america yes? Such as all the gang culture? Tell me if handguns were banned where do they get them? Same place(back ally or a pub) as they would if they were legal anyway because illegal firearms are most often used incrimes.
bear-Glad to see a police firearms officer talking about this. Nice to have your opinion. Yes there is reason to have shotguns and rifles for vermin control etc. I myself have an interest in handgun target shooting and would love to have the chance to take up this sport but i do not. Its a shame that because of stupid laws in this country that our own olympics pistol team has to live and train abroad. I am afraid i have to disagree with you on the better of two evils as all correctly vetted, trained gun owners would not commit crime or allow their guns to be stolen and as you said yourself criminals will always get guns anyway. At least we would have our sport.
I would like to add that if i hear of a shooting i’m 90% sure that it will either be black person shot or a black person doing the shooting. So logically wouldn’t it be better to do something about the gangs they are in rather than guns. If you look at statistics gun crime is up since the banning. Not only that how many police officers do you hear of being shot these days compared to 20 years ago.
I agree at the very least handguns and semi rifles should be held in a secure location like a club for target shooting but think about the amount of guns held in one location that if someone could by pass that security and get them.
oldpepy- Thank you for agreeing. However i do not believe that self defence is the main reason of owning a firearm. I believe that only damages the arguement for owner ship. My main reason is the sport. However i do agree that self defence is a handy by product of ownership and if it was more widely accepted then the shooter could possibly have been stopped sooner rather than later.
Bear- sorry to hear about your collegue. However I do still believe that firearms are acceptable if properly controlled and policed. As another user said if we followed the swiss example Michael Ryan would have been stopped almost immediatly. Unfortunatly you are right some people do fly off the rails but again what was to stop that person grabbing a kitchen knife and stabbing someone. At the very least handguns and semi auto rifles should be allowed to be purchased and held in gun clubs.
The thing with BB guns/Air rifles is semi ridiculous. Sometimes bb guns are treated as if they are actual firearms shopkeepers who sell them to youths should be prosecuted not legitimate skirmishers/target shooters etc. I believe that air rifles should be licenced but not to the strict extent of proper firearms licenceing i.e constant checks. Just a general application and vetting again so people can enjoy shooting safely without neds getting their hands on them so easily.
david d- i do not believe in god but if i did i would believe that all people who intended evil in life including to use guns to kill and main would be in hell being punished whereas in heaven i could do whatever i wanted as i wouldnt cause harm there or on earth to anything so there fore i could shoot til my heart is content. Perhaps we could use Hellbound people as targets maybe could would accept that?
little nell- Thanks for answering, interesting response some good points but again some sort of concealed carry permit could be introduced. A few people at hungerford were shot in their homes so ot doesn’t mean that everyone would be walking around with guns in their pockets.
pirate_princess- look closer at the statistics and you will find its mostly drug related gang wars with illegally obtained guns much as it is here.

thats what ive always found , or you get some douches coming into your life who you dont like or respect , treating you inferior, like a charity case acting like their some hero or oracle and that the only way forward is through them.
im 30 have bpd, and ptsd, missed out on everrything in life, had an incredablly unfortunate life, live alone on disability in a small apartment in england , unfortunatly i have a long psychiatric history and a criminal record going back 7 years ago..
they dont have the therapy i want in my area, ( individual psychotherapy ) but instead are refering me to a local resource centre where they do activities to help me integrate with people because ive been isolated for so long..
this isnt the situation or the life i wanted to finish up with – its stupid and fckd up !
i have no qualifications , no employment history a record , shht !
my only goal is to leave england and move abroad to a hot climate near the coast , im a sun person.
id like a decent paid job in computers and finally to leave .
but how will i achieve those goals at my late stage ?
ive lost alot of friends and contacts on yahoo answer because of severe low self esteem, clingyness, fear of rejection , and being afraid to reciprocate or contact them when theyve tried to contact me.
everyone abandons you like your rabies virus or belong on some facking lepor colony.
you get people coming into your life uninvited to treated like some fckd up charity case or to make you feel inferior , like you need them to save you..
i believe, but my situation in life feels unbelievably fckd.
people coming into your life making you feel even worse about things , telling you you cant achieve your goals because of your disadvantaged past..
” you have to think realistic and lower your sights in life ”
” oh no you cant do this – oh no you cant do that ”
” your past will block you, employers do background checks now ”
these people always come into my life manefested in this forum sometimes.
i hate it , the people you want are never around , your friends , contacts desert you , to be replaced by these wierd characters who i dispise.

It says to disclose if your parents are involved in criminal activity or anything which resulted in a clash with the law. Would my dad caught speeding and going to court to pay a fine impact on my family’s background checks which are carried out? His CRB for a security guard came back fine so I presume he has no criminal record????
Thank you

I am worried that a record I had seal will show up on my background check. Although it appears I do not have any criminal record if the check is done directly to the court, I know that some 3rd party employee screeners may found them.
Do anyone know how big companies and Banks perform background checks? And will they find my pass record?

If a person was convicted of a felony 14 years ago, what should they do when applying for a job when asked about their criminal past? I know there are different types of background checks that companies do. For instance…A larger, national company will have the money to spend on a thourough National background check, but these types of checks are usually expensive and time consuming. On the other hand a smaller, local company may only invest in a statewide, 7 or 10 year background check as these are usually cheaper and the results are faster. How does a person with a non-violent felony coviction from 14-15 years ago deal with something like this when applying for a job that they are otherwise qualified for? I am looking into applying for a small, local trucking company, but I dont want to reveal my background if it is not neccessary as I believe they will likely only do a statewide 10 yr. background check. The company Im currently working for is small and they only did a statewide.

I read on numerous websites that i could go to any police department and for a fee could get a background check on myself. Unfortunately, I tried this and several policemen emphatically told me that it is illegal for them to do background checks on anyone who is not a criminal. Now, I know a certain jobs in the US require background checks, but in these cases the employer provides a fingerprint form. How can I get a check that the Korean government will accept?

I just joined Reverse Phone Detective, but that membership only gives you reverse phone lookup and you have to pay more for a background check. I need something that I can look up the number and also the criminal background on the same site all included in the membership price instead of paying extra for background checks.

This is a two part question.
I am thinking of going into the nuclear field and medicine.
Even though my background is clean, I don’t know what to expect for them to find.
What type of a background check should I expect going into these career fields?
And what other careers have background checks relating to your past history?
If you want to know, some employers base not only on criminal background, but credit and medical as well.
I have bad credit and the medical history isn’t very well either.

I am up for a position and they are in the process of running different background checks on me. The one that concerns me is the education background check.
I am exactly one class shy of earning the BS degree that I claimed on my CV. I walked during graduation and everything, but I never got the *incomplete* for that class cleared up and, hence, never completely fulfilled my graduation requirements.
In an education background check, do companies verify that you have the degree or just that you attended the university during the dates you claimed?
Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.
