I am a law student and have been charged with DUI (I know, not an ideal situation). I have an otherwise spotless record and am wondering the impact of a conviction on potential government employment–be it local, state, or federal. I have been accepted for an internship with the federal public defender’s office and am wondering if a conviction (or even arrest) will disqualify me. I was honest about the situation on my application form. Is a first DUI a disqualification from public sector legal employment? Thanks.

even if you have a conviction after you turn 20 years old, I have a friend who is trying to get employment and he asked me this question.

B) If you wish to dispute the identity of the arrest record in question, you may provide a set of original fingerprints. Call xxx-xxx-xxxx to obtain a fingerprint card and and return envelope from the office which you applied.

ok now I do have a background I got in trouble for a Public Intoxication and disorderly conduct and resisting arrest. I ended up spending the night in jail got out. Had to go to AA and community service and pay a fine. This was almost 5-6 yrs ago. This was the only time I ever ever got in trouble is this what they are referring to, I am not sure what it is I should do? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank You.

I have an interview on Monday and they are doing a full background check for a security clearance. I have a dui, evading, and arrest without conviction for a domestic. The dui is about 15 years old, the evading about 12 years old, and the arrest a little over a year old.

Hello, It has come to my understanding that juveniles in CA are able to seal their juvenile criminal records in CA when they turn age 18 OR if 5 years have past since the conviction. I know that we cannot seal our records if we committed an offense in WIC 707 (b), however, i ask this. Can juveniles still seal their records IF they got convicted with a FELONY rather than misdemeanor? Please help me, thank you for your time.

I was arrested 3 years ago. And had to stay in jail for a day while waiting for the bail. It was all because of grand theft misdemeanor case that has been dismissed after doing a pretrial diversion. The lawyer said there was an arrest but no conviction. will that arrest and case show on my record everytime they do a background check when applying for work? was there really no conviction on that case? do I need an expungement even if the case was dismissed?

I have been offered a job with BofA and was told that I need to do a fingerprint background check. I told that I have been arrested and that I was convicted, but that it was sealed off my record. Will the fingerprint background check still show the arrest and conviction? It happened about 6 years ago now. Will they see and should I disclose that the arrest and conviction was for misdemeanor retail theft?

I am applying for a job in Japan and need a visa. The application form asks, have you ever had a conviction? Well I had a conditional discharge in 1997. I have never done anything since. The catch 22, however, is, should I say no. If I say yes, my chances of the job are gone because Japanese society is very conservative. I was wondering if there was a website I could go to, so that I could check my background information. I was charged for theft a long time ago, but I don’t remember if it was put into my record or not… Or if it was a disqualifying conviction.

I have a job interview at ross and i hear they do a background check. I have several misdemeanors/infractions on my record (i live in CA if that matters)…nothing major, no theft at least. Just one dui, one marijuana possession, one "alcohol possession at a beach, park, public area" conviction, and a resisting arrest. Will all of these show up on the screening you think? Would they frown upon this sort of behavior?

I was mistakenly arrested for a harassment charge but the case was no-complainted and it did not lead to any trial or conviction.

I was charged with a disorderly conduct in NY state in February of 2008. I pleaded not guilty and was a given an ACD. They said that I would not be charged with the crime if I stayed out of trouble for 6 months. I did so. Will the charge of Disorderly Conduct show up on my background check and should I disclose of it before hand? Also is it an Arrest & Conviction or a Minor Traffic Violation?

For instance if someone has a conviction of either grand theft or domestic violence for instance. When employers or anyone conducts a background check on an individual, exactly what information comes up. I know that the felonies will show up but will the felonies be explained in the check or would it be just in black and white.

if a person is picked up for driving while intoxicated having two minors in the car and the charges are dismissed after all programs were completed (first offense). then why would a federal background check of fingerprints come back as pending a conviction?

I have a pending case that is going to be dismissed for 2 D Felony charges; I did not commit the alleged crimes. I’ve got a promising job coming up and they’re going to do a background check. Will this arrest/pending conviction show up? I wouldn’t hire someone with 2 D Felonies, but I’m innocent of this and its in the process of being dismissed!
I really hope its just a state check…that would be nice.

About 5 years ago I got into a little trouble due to someone giving me a fake check, the conviction was expunged long story short. Last year I was offered a job with Wells Fargo bank & then they withdrew their offer after my background check didn’t pan through… How were they able to view this expunged record & what exact employer type has access to these "destroyed" records?
FYI, I was never arrested & also, I was specifically told that I would not have to check "yes" on an application to conviction. I’ve also already held federal & state positions without problem.

When doing a background check, If they go back 7 years is it start from the end of your probation or the day of conviction?

Just need to know because I am about to become an approved person and I have a very minor conviction on my record from my earlier days and I am considering what to disclose? Please advise?

My current thinking is that they only check CRBs and therefore I should be okay and not disclose my minor record from my home country.

Will a "non-conviction case" show up on a background check in Washington State? If so, what are my rights if I am denied employment for a domestic violence charge that I am "not guilty" of and doing domestic violence classes instead. Do employers have the right to deny employment if you are not convicted of a crime??

Unfortunately stupid choices in my teen years resulted in felony convictions for bad checks. This is not a representation of my current moral character and I have successfully held employment in both the financial and information technology areas since the conviction. I also have executive level management experience.

None the less, I find that in the current job market, the conviction seems to be more of an issue than previously. Any suggestions on companies that value the employee over the background check? I am willing to relocate nationally, and am willing to accept a lower starting salary to get my foot in the door. Any suggestions are appreciated.

Does "Court Dismissal" next to a charge on your criminal record constitute a conviction set aside, expunged, or vacated? Or was the charge completely dropped before a conviction?

Trying to get a job with pg&e…I did my drug diversion and the cases were dismissed… I was on probation… Which is now done and long gone.. My last arrest was 8 years ago… I never know what box to check on my applications… It’s asking if I’ve ever been convicted… With a dismissed case is it a conviction??

An arrest with a charge for disorderly conduct misdemeanor happened to the person earlier this year but the case was later dropped/dismissed and thus there is no conviction and the case is closed.

In Utah, will it show [class B] misdemeanor arrests even if I haven’t been convicted yet?
Or will that not show up until after the court date/conviction?

What does pre-employment background check show? Since there is no conviction, will the arrest record show up? Will a pending case show up in the background check?

I am currently trying to find a new job, but due to my background I have been unable to even get an interview. I currently reside in IL and am thinking about moving to FL and want to know if employers will find out about my record in IL? My last conviction was in 2001 for a felony and I also have two other misdemeanors from before 2001.

I am going for an expungement hearing in about one week. If I am granted the expungement, how long before a criminal background check does not see my conviction? Also, is there a list out there of all the government agencies that hold conviction information? I am in dire need of this to get off my record quickly!
The expungement hearing is in Mahoning County.

I was convicted of driving with an invalid license, a misdemeanor, in 2008. Will this cause me to fail a pre-employment background check? The company (a law firm), seems strict. What are my chances that my misdemeanor will disqualify me from getting this job as a receptionist??? I need help, I’m really worried! Thanks!

The application asked if I have ever been convicted of a crime, "felony or misdemeanor". Then it states that havin a conviction doesn’t necessarily disqualify me from getting the job. It doesn’t state anything more about it.

About 3 weeks ago I applied for job and did not have any convictions or crimes committed. Well on Monday the 10th I plead no contest in a felony theft because I didn’t want to risk losing in a jury trail and go to prison. I had a interview today, December 11th, 1 day after my plea. I want to know,

Will that conviction will appear on a background check within the next few days?

When your car is rrepossessed, does it normally show on your credit report as a whole bunch of things: Namely, a judgement, repossesion and default, and as a conviction in court, and as a debt that you still owe as well as a what else?

And can you get credit at all after this happens?

i have a few convictions on my record when i was a youth.
its been nearly 5 years since my last conviction, all my charges i pleaded guilty to, my convictions are:
2x burglary & theft (dwelling)
1x theft from a motor vehicle
1x failer to surrender to custody at appointed time
& 1x breach of community & rehabilitation order

and since my last conviction ive worked a couple of jobs and been to college.
