People Background Search

Every job I have ever had in my adult life has required an initial drug test, and random drug tests after that and a background check as well as a credit check. All decent companies as well as the states and federal governments require these for employment. Why do so many people complain about this part of the application process?

I was already offered the job at Fremont Bank, submitted to a drug test and everything. In my application I lied about a past job, or rather claimed that my reason for leaving was that I "sought career growth". I was informed that they will conduct a consumer report through Employee Relations, Inc. My orientation day is tomorrow, and I was offered the job 3 days ago. Would they have conducted a background check (employment verification) by now or should I still be worried? I’m scared they’ll call that past employer and find out that I was actually fired rather than voluntarily quit.

I have received an offer from an insurance co as a customer svc rep in their call center. I accepted their offer and now have to pass a drug test (no problem) and a background investigation. I presume it will be a criminal record check (no problem) and employment record (no problem) but my credit isn’t great. I have a bankruptcy from 2005 but all of my current credit is on time and good.

If all of the other items are in order and I was already given an offer, will that one thing cause them to rescind their offer?

I just started a commission only job in California selling door to door telecommunication packages It’s strange that I previously worked at a national retail chain before which I had a drug test – paid by the employer But these people now want to charge the employee – for a background check – which I seriously doubt that they really did, and for the drug test These are some big bucks for someone having to do this kind of job

Many employment applications will state upfront and in unambiguous terms that there will be a drug test and background check required for employment at the firm and requests agreement to this. This one did not. In fact there was no formal application at all. Thus, how could drug testing be illegal in California. I see references to one or both of these checks indeed being illegal in some states, but I can’t spend the time to sort through every state, etc.
Where could I find information about "California law prohibits an employer from charging an employee for a background check" – references to specific official statutes, codes, etc?

In order to meet the minimum qualifications for this position, you must be at least 18 years of age, pass a drug test, pass a background check and pass The Home Depot employment test.

I recently had and interveiw with cvs pharmacy and the district supervisor basically hired me on the spot and naturally i had to do a drug test and have a background check on me. now i know that i passed my drug test however i have not received a call or a letter denying me employment for about 2 weeks now. however the background check was put in two days before thanksgiving, does anyone know what might be going on, why is it takeing so long for a final answer.? I interviewed for a job in a call center today, and will have the job, once my background check and drug test result comes back! I’m so happy about that! The only problem? That background check!

I am not a bad person, and certainly not a trouble maker, at ALL! But.. When I was 16/17 years old, I got into a bit of trouble. The most serious was underage drinking charges (one at 16, one at 18 and one at age 20) and fighting in public, which if I remember right, I had a couple under 18 and 2 after I turned 18. Other than that, I remember having a ticket for curfew violation, and some traffic tickets, nothing more. I haven’t been in ANY trouble since I turned 21. It’s been almost 10 years since I have had any trouble at all. Aside from a couple traffic tickets (not wearing a seatbelt a few years ago, that type of thing, nothing more serious).

This call center is doing an extensive background check, they told me to list anything, even speeding tickets. Wow! lol I honestly can not remember every ticket I have had in my life, and the dates. If I leave them out, will they not hire me if they find it? How far back to they look, do they go back before the 18th birthday? Am I going to NEVER be able to get a job in my life because of a few mistakes I made about 10 years ago? I’ve never had a felony, never had a charge for anything related to theft/fraud and the like. I don’t know what to think!
Oh, and I must add, the fighting in public charges all relate back to an issue I had with someone. He retaliated because he didn’t get what he wanted, and had his female friends pick fights with me, which I tried to avoid, but ended up getting into a few fights after trying hard to avoid it. A person can only take so much, until she has to defend herself. SO, it’s not like i’m a fighter, trouble starter. Very opposite! lol

I had a interview with walmart Thursday & they said if my background check comes back in time I can start Tuesday! I have a clean background! No arrests or anything! I was wondering if it will be back in time!?

I might have a job interview soon at Raley’s and they do a hair test for drugs. Thursday, I smoked half a joint. On Friday, I was tricked into eating hash popcorn and took one hit from a joint. I am very nervous that if I fail the drug test, it could hurt my chances on getting future jobs. Will a failed drug test appear in my background check or not?

I know its the holidays, so I’m trying not to worry. But I went for my physical, drug test, background check on december 15th and today is january 6th! My drug test I passed and my physical was good. I have no criminal history, but am wondering are they still wanting me to work? I want this job so so bad! Okayyy so this is a first job kind of thing for me and im only 16. So i applied at winn dixie grocery stores about four weeks ago, and thn three days later i showed up with a resume and the big manager insantly liked me so he got me into an interview tht same day with the hiring manager and she instantly liked me too and tht same day she basically told me i got the job. Sent me too get drug tested (pee in a cup) at labcorp, and then to come back on a few days later to put my name in the system for the background check. So she said theyll give me a call. Two weeks passed by and theyhadnt called so i gae her a call. And since she had been on vacation she had just strted working tht same day , theyve been really busy bcuz they are remodeling and hiring, and she told me ht labcorp for sone reason still had me pending with about six other people and tht she was going to call me though. So its been a little over a week and she stil hasnt called me back . I free of any drugs ( except for a prescription drug tht i havent even tken i a while ) and my background check is clean. I took midol the day of the drug test tho. So but idk. Its been a while? What should i do?????

Will a failed drug test show up on a background check if I am trying to get into nursing school?

I’m going through a criminal background check for a job, and I already took a drug test. It’s been over two weeks now and it seems like it’s taking forever. IDK if that’s good or bad, but my question is, if an employer conducts a criminal background check, what does that consist of?

I’m asking cause I have no criminal record but worked at a place for a month, about a year ago, but ommitted this from my application.

I went in for an interview as a RCA. I have given consent for my background check. I waited about a week and now they have scheduled my drug test. Even after all this good news, I am nervous about my driving record having so many points.

My question: Is all of this information taken and then considered at once? Or do they look at my driving record and if it checks out, proceed with the background check and if it checks out, then they schedule a drug test. I am so anxious to find out and I’d rather no longer have to worry.
So, if anyone has any information into this process please enlighten me.

Has anyone ever been sent for a drug test and background check after an interview and then not been offered a job? (This is assuming you’re not a criminal or drug user) This happened to me last Friday and I haven’t heard back yet. I know background checks take a little while but I’m pretty anxious to hear from them. It seems dumb to pay to test everyone they interview but maybe they do?

ok so i was arrested for gt but before this happened i applied at best buy. so now i already had my second interview and i passed the drug test. the only thing left is the background check. so here is were my question comes in. i haven’t bin convicted or gone to court yet for this just arrested. will this show up, or will just an arrest show up. And can they deny me employment do to the arrest?

I made it through 3 nerve wracking interviews and passed the drug test, and was told that they were just waiting to get a bunch of people together before they assign me to an orientation. I signed some papers and was told I’d be working in Health & Beauty. I have 2 felonies (petty theft 2004, sale of marijuana 2005) on my record and had put them down on my application, but was never asked about them at the interviews. I did sign a consent to do a background check and on the consent form I noted that I had 2 felonies again. The woman in personnel said that Walmart gives felons a second chance, but almost 4 weeks later I got a rejection letter. They said that they will not be offering me a job at this time…

If I took a drug test on Dec 16, 2010 how long does it usually take for the results. I also had to sign something for a background check also.

I applied at Waste management, I got the job as a CSR along with 17 other people (18 of us total). I went in monday morning to do my drug test which I know went fine because I don’t do any drugs. I also sent in my background check Monday as well. I have no idea what is taking so long, its already Thursday!! When I was 17 (I am 18 now), I got a "minor dui" and since my bac was so low, it was ticketed as "driving while impaired to the slightest degree" which sounds better than a dui. According to my parents, the court said it would be earased off my criminal record when I turn 18. But I don’t know for sure. I didn’t put it on my application, because my parents and other people told me not to because it was a juveinille offense. I already had the interview/passed the drug test, and I am scheduled for training next week, so I can’t go back and explain my case…

Since it was a juveinelle offense, and I already did my stuff for it (besides the 2 year license suspension), is it still going to show up on my CRIMINAL (not driving) record?

So I’m up for this job that I reeeeally reeeeally want… But before I can get it I’ve got to pass this background check.

My credit has already been given the okay and I’ve never had any incidents with the law so I’m clear on criminal. But I have smoked weed with in the last 7 years and the last time I did was about a year and a half ago. They asked on the application how many times and I put under 30. (hell I’m 26 years old… beside the older I got the less the it happened and now I don’t even do it… Clinton did it!!!) anyway…

So while I’m waiting I’m going crazy hoping that my application isn’t rejected because of this. I didn’t want to lie about it on the application since I may have to go through this process again and for a more extensive type of clearance.

Does anyone know if there is some sort of guideline followed when doing a background checks as extensive as this?

FYI some secret security clearances involve lie detector tests… which is the only reason I admitted to ever having smoked weed… It’s not the piss test I’m worried about… it’s my credibility…

My husband was offered a job for .70 for a company as a slitter operator and he has to pass a drug and background check.

He will pass the drug test but he’s worried about the background check. He’s 33 years old, and when he was 18/19 years old, he had a few felonies. Will they show it in his background check?

How far do companies usually go in looking for information? He had a few warrents for him within the last 5 years as well.

I took a drug test for pre-employment back in college in my "bad" days for a job with BB&T and apparently it was not long enough since the last time I had done something. This was almost 2 1/2 years ago and I have accepted a job pending my background check. Will the test results show on a background check that the new employer will use? or is that something that would not show up?

So here’s the deal… I applied for a job with Comcast awhile back. They called me in for the Assessment Test and I passed. Did the interview, pass. The lady from Human Resources called me in last Wednesday, 2/24, to do some more paperwork. While looking at all the paperwork she told me that this was a "preliminary" job offer pending drug test and background check/past employment verification. I had 48 hours to take the drug test but figured why not and took it around lunch that day. I have nothing to worry about on that end anyway. Then later that night, people from another company started calling asking for W2′s,1099′s, pay check stubs, diploma, etc. saying it was to check my employment verification. I sent it back in and one of my old employers called me about 2 days later and said they called his office and he left a good reference and all the info matched. Then an old client said they were trying to call her but she couldn’t answer because she was at work. They left a number for her to call and she would call it back but couldn’t get an answer. This went on for about 2 days. My HR lady told me that they drag their feet and it’d probably be 2 weeks before I could start. Here’s my thing though… Nobody has called me from Comcast or the company doing the background check. I can’t get in touch with either of them also. I have no criminal history whatsoever. If there is an issue would they at least call me to resolve it or just never call again? Or is no news good news? It has me kinda on edge. I guess from just sweating it out day to day and the fact that I have a 9 month old son and a fiance and this is the first good paying, legitamite job offer I’ve had since I got laid off last year. Has anyone else been through this? Am I just overreacting or is there something I should be worried about? Thanks

I did my third interview and the gm hired me on the spot. He wants me to go to a clinic and take a drug test. I’m quite confused about the background check.

I was recently offered a position at a local hospital as a medical records clerk, I went in and took my drug test and passed, and had a TB test done, which I’ve already had checked and cleared, I’ve even filled out my direct deposit info and W4 and everything.

HR says they are just waiting on my background check to come back? I would have thought this would have been one of the first things they did?

To complete the hiring process at a Florida animal hospital, I must pass a background check. The position at the pet hospital is basic (front desk/receptionist) and doesn’t have any specific requirements and pay is a couple dollars over min wage.

I’m just wondering what all will be covered by the background check? Will it just be criminal stuff (no prior arrests or convictions so not worried) OR will they access my Credit History too? (this is what I AM worried about)?

I have a Ch 7 bankruptcy and am applying for a customer service call center position, does anyone know if there is a chance I will not get the job? They brought me in today to do paperwork and want me to start monday, but I guess it’s all contingent upon me passing the background check and drug test. I told the hiring manager that I did not have the best credit, and he did not seem concerned, he just said that HR handles all of that. The guy I shadowed in the hiring process said he had bad credit too and he had no problems, but I just didn’t know with the bankruptcy. Any help would be appreciated and spam is not.
they did say they would check credit, but most places do nowadays but it’s a general form so I’m wondering if this position really focuses on credit check as a part of the decision

I submitted a background check only, I didnt’ list all the jobs I’ve ever had. Someone told me that companies can only check what you put on the background check about jobs. I have great credit, no criminal record, never failed a drug test. Is there a possibility I might fail the background check?

Last Thursday I had a interview at a check cashing store & they copied my Social Security and ID and said they had to do a background check & send it to HR. I already did the drug test last thursday in the managers office (saliva test) im sure it came back clean because i do no drugs. I am not worried about the drug test but in regards to the background, what is it that they are looking for. I applied for a mailsorting/ shipping and receiving job and I am waiting for a drug test and a background check to be done, they said 3 days for the drug test and 7 for background, is that business days or consecutive and will it really take that long? I applied on thursday and went for the drug test on friday. How long do you think it will be until they call back?

I had a interview with Krogers on Mon. I did background check and drug test. How long does background check takes to come back? Of course, everything is good on mine but just wondering should I wait or give Krogers a call?

I sent out the acceptance letter and did the drug test 4 business days ago. The lab said that the company will receive the test result in 2 business days, which was last Thursday. In October I was busted for Marijuana Possession in IL. I took a plea deal which included pleading guilty to under 2.5 grams, but getting 12 months court supervision for it. I am still on court supervision and applying for a summer job I have had a few times. I think the company does a background check, and one of the questions on the app is have you been convicted of a crime in the past 7 years. Should I put this case on the application? Will it show up on my record even though I am on court supervision? I really don’t want them to know I was busted for this, because I failed the drug test last year, and convinced them I don’t actually smoke, I have just been around it. They are giving me another chance at employment. Should I make up a b.s. story about why I got busted, or should I not put it on the app and see what happens. I would really appreciate any input.

my clearence is active. so there is no need to sit on it. I had it transferd to a job about 5 months ago so i know it is active. that is why i am assuming there just verfing everything. I am just getting impatient and ready to get moved, and give notices.

I recently got a contract with Sprint Nextel that will become perm after three months. I went for my drug test on july 28th and signed the contract and all the paperwork on july 27th. The job requires a clearable citizen so they are of course going to condcut background test. I interviewed with a company and have received an offer letter from them with a starting date. The only last thing to do is the background check and drug test. Will they get back to me with the results when the check is done?
