Im interested to know the statute of limitations for background checks, which 14 states have them? in regards to misdemeanors and felony’s.

Back about 6yrs ago i was drunk and got arrested for domestic charges with my GF which is now my wife. when i was arrested i was charged with 3 felony charges , when it got done in court i was charged with Assault and criminal mischief. both misdemeanors…. im in the process to have this sealed and the paperwork has been sent to the judge. Should i disclose this info to the employer that im about to get the job with when i sign the background check paperwork? and do you think this might render my chance at getting a job?

I was offered a job and as long as I pass the background check I am hired. The job is an entry level industrial labor position. The concern I have is back in March I was arrested. My wife and I had a shoving match and I got Domestic Violence and also was tagged with a Protection Order violation making a phone call to her the day I was served papers. I know, I know I was in the wrong and I admitted it and paid for it. They were both misdemeanors. So will those keep me for passing the background check?

Also my wife and I did counseling and now have the best marriage a couple can have! This all changed me for the better.

I’m looking to find out what will come up in a basic background check an employer would do on me. I have little misdemeanors from the past that I am curious about.

They are aware I have an OUI but I forgot to mention I have other misdemeanors in the same class as the OUI I think, criminal mischief for breaking my boyfriends glasses, a disorderly conduct too. This is a pre-employment background check.

I was caught drinking underage, and also had some marijuana. In Minnesota, marijuana is decriminalized and is classified as a petty misdemeanor.

Since according to the state petty misdemeanors are not crimes, would this show up on a background check?

Just went on an interview for a secretarial position at a local hospital. They will be running a criminal background check. Fifteen years ago I was arrested for shoplifting, assault (as when the secret shopper grabbed my arm I tried to peel her hand off of me, and was charged with assault), possession of marijuana… very little amount. I turned my life around around after these arrests, went on to have three children, and I am a respectful citizen.

I really want this job!!! I am very nervous that this will show up and prohibit an offer of employment.

Does anyone know how far back a NJ hospital check would go?

Yes, they are convictions.. they are misdemeanors. About nine years ago I applied for a job at a nursing home in Pennsylvania and this showed up. The person who interviewed me called me and wanted to meet with me to discuss this. I had already accepted another job and did not meet with her. I am not sure if she was going to offer me the job, even with seeing these convictions or not. At that point in time, it was only 6 years after the convictions. At the present time, these convictions are from 15 years ago, so I am hoping that they will not show up. All I can do at this point is hope I guess!

I recently got a job offering for this Thursday but they require a Criminal background check. I have never been arrested but am nervous because my drivers license is suspended because I was pulled over for a broken tail light and no insurance. Im already taking care of the problem by paying that ticket. I have no misdemeanors or felonies. Please help will this affect my me getting the job. OH and no the job does not require any driving. I am aware that US and Canada share such information. Does the UK also share such information and vice versa?

A friend of mine (whom i was planning on living with) recently got a job and an apartment. The real estate lady called the two of us telling us that there’s a problem with my potential roommate’s criminal record – but she couldn’t elaborate any further until he spoke with my roommate directly

He got in trouble for stealing goods from a department store and trying to enter a nightclub with a fake ID. Both were misdemeanors, although I don’t know which class/level in PA.

What’s the likelihood of him getting kicked out of the apartment, and him failing the background check by a large, multinational company (He’d be a sales guy) – thus losing employment?

If he does get everything sorted out, how long would it take?

I did an application at PacSun the other day and I came across the typical ‘have you ever been convicted of a criminal offense’. Underneath it there was a disclaimer saying if you were in certain states (I think Utah was one) that you only had to check ‘yes’ is you had a felony, and said something along the lines that certain states dont check for misdemeanors.

I have a job interview at ross and i hear they do a background check. I have several misdemeanors/infractions on my record (i live in CA if that matters)…nothing major, no theft at least. Just one dui, one marijuana possession, one "alcohol possession at a beach, park, public area" conviction, and a resisting arrest. Will all of these show up on the screening you think? Would they frown upon this sort of behavior?

The company i applied for asked for misdemeanors or felonies in the past seven years, in the job application. They have told me the job is mine if I can clear the background check. I have an INFRACTION (much smaller than a misdemeaanor) of "theft of property" which is almost 7 1/2 years old. Would this still affect me? I was fingerprinted today for a job with a contractor that works directly with the IRS (in their building) and I am really praying to get the job but now the background check begins. I’m just wondering if your credit score is a factor on whether or not you get a job with the IRS because due to mistakes from the past, mine isn’t really that great however I have no misdemeanors, felonies and have never been to court or jail for anything. I’m just really praying that I get hired but nervous at the same time during this waiting period.

I interviewed for Books-a-Million last week. They must of liked me because the next day after the interview, I got an e-mail from them inviting me to fill out a background check form online. How long this usually take? Its been a week now. There shouldn’t be any problems because my background is clean, no misdemeanors or felonies.

A lot of employers require the candidate "to successsfully pass a criminal background check", however, they are never specific as to what this constitutes. Of course, if you just did 10 years for rape or 20 years for murder, you’re not going to pass. Also, any prior felony conviction will usually be adequate to disqualify you.

But what about misdemeanors or ordinance offenses? Or felony arrests that did not result in conviction? Is it just really company policy when it comes to these less serious matters?
Yes, glock I understand those are the things that show up, but what needs to be on there to "fail"? It probably depends on the company and the position???

I am currently working as a mechanical engineer. I interviewed with a company last October, but no position was available then, yet he said repeatedly he was very interested in me, etc. I received a call from the director of the office that interviewed me this past Wed. He said that he had a position available. I talked to him two days ago and he said he is going to send me an offer letter via snail/email. The thing is, I like to smoke pot once in a while to wind down. I don’t during work, or when I have to drive. I met up with a friend one Friday after work and got busted for possession and para. neither was mine. All because I was in the car. Possession got dropped. Got 90 day supervision for the paraphernalia. Both misdemeanors. Please spare me a lecture about how terrible pot is. However, I haven’t received an email or a letter with an offer. You think he did a background check and it came up? Any way I can tell? Or would he have done it in October when I interviewed?

Does a criminal background check for a job incude just felonies or will misdemeanors like underage drinking show up?

i recently thought about buying a firearm and i wasn’t sure if i was able to buy one because i had a a few tickets for a few misdemeanors back when i was under 18.

the tickets were for possession of marijuana, and concealed weapon (butterfly knife)
i have already been to court and and finished probation for these charges.

Im just kind of asking if anyone knows which criminal records searches are good and why 99% of the online searches show up nothing on me. I know i have a couple convictions for misdemeanors within the past few years . I was going to hire an attorney to attempt to seal my record but if i cant find anything , and employers cant find anything i dont see the point.

I know there are federal and state laws governing this issue. I’m wondering exactly what information is disclosed during a background check. I’m asking because I was a former police officer who got charged with two felonies and two misdemeanors (domestic incident) a month ago. The charges are false and are being fought with an attorney. Don’t wanna go into too many details, but all charges will be dropped in the end. The victim doesn’t want to testify, and never did. No victim, no case. Anyways, I know that if I applied to be another police officer or work for a Police Agency, they can run a special background check that will show the arrest, but if a private corporation say Walmart, or Target were to run my background for an employment check, only Felony Convictions would show up right? Or would the arrest show up as well? I know the application only says to list convictions, so im not listing anything. I just really want this job!! Pays very well with good benefits! Anyone?
